Live Every Day Like It’s Your First
I recently journeyed to the Windy City of Chicago.
The impetuous being spending an evening with two creatives that are the essence of hope, positivity and love. Both their voices are profound: one through words and the other through music! Beautiful couple, Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad, inspired us as they invited us into their mobile living room.
It was an intimate visit as we listened to Suleika read from her new book The Book of Alchemy – A Creative Practice for an Inspired Life, as Jon played the grand piano beside her. The book is an invitation into the creative process and power of journaling.
However, more touching is her story about battling leukemia. She’s a two-time survivor and just announced that it is back for the third time - right as she launched her book tour. Her story of living between two kingdoms – one of health and the other of looking at death is profound. She is 36.
The evening ended with an invitation from Suleika: Live every day like it is your first. As she said, to live every day like it is your last is just too much pressure.
So how do you do that? In a recent conversation with Courtney Carver, author of Gentle: Rest More, Stress Less and Live the Life You Actually Want, she taught us to start with these six steps:
Rest is essential - slowing down and prioritizing rest is a powerful act of self-care and strength.
Less is more - simplifying your life creates space for what truly matters.
Self-compassion changes everything - treating yourself with kindness transforms your energy and outlook.
Small steps lead to big change - gentle, consistent actions are more sustainable than drastic overhauls.
Authenticity over approval - living true to yourself is more fulfilling than meeting others' expectations.
Joy grows in stillness - peace and happiness are found when you step off the treadmill of constant doing.
Small steps lead to big change. We invite you to share your thoughts on our private Facebook page where our conversation can continue. You can join HERE.
Here’s to living every day like it is your first.
