Mushrooms have been used for health and longevity in East Asian countries for thousands of years, but did you know that clinical trials suggest mushrooms, such as Reishi, are a possible benefit in cancer treatment? Or that microdosing of psilocybin (also known as magic mushrooms) has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression and inflammation? Join us and mycologist Terri Smith on May 21st to explore the wild world of mushrooms and their health benefits!
About Terri: Terri Smith is a talented mycologist and ambitious social entrepreneur. As CEO of Wake Jamaica Ltd, and as founder of the Network of Women for Food Security, she is driven by a passion for fungi; as medicine, as food and as a tool of economic empowerment for marginalized communities. She founded the Network of Women for Food Security in 2010, a network of mushroom farmers across Jamaica. Over the last decade, she has trained rural women to grow artisanal mushrooms and operate sustainable, restorative micro-farms. Terri believes in a triple bottom line approach to growing: every community entered must be better when we leave - financially, socially and environmentally. Alongside education in mushroom cultivation, Terri’s training also educates on the medicinal properties of mushrooms, enhancing the marketing and revenue-generating potential of the women involved in her network.
