Foraging for Wild Edible Mushrooms, Morel Mania + More

There is something about foraging that tugs at the very heartstrings of our DNA, awakening a base human drive that has been there all along just hoping for a spark.

Being a forager deepens your awareness of the land, opening your eyes to the beautiful connectedness of all things in the forest. It is much bigger than the 'food' you are collecting. Certified Wild Mushroom Identification Expert and self-proclaimed “modern forager” Kristen Blizzard will give us best practices to get out into nature in our own way and begin foraging. She will also help us understand the types of wild mushrooms and morels we might find.

She will leave us inspired to breathe, listen, smell, see, and fill our senses with the fragile beauty of our wild spaces.

About Kristen: Self-proclaimed “modern forager” Kristen Blizzard resides in Glenwood Springs, Colorado with her husband Trent. They have been trekking the forests of Colorado, the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest for years mostly with wild, edible mushrooms in mind. At first a hobby, the hunt for mushrooms quickly became nothing short of an obsession. Kristen is a certified Wild Mushroom Identification Expert in Colorado. As a modern forager, she utilizes digital mapping, social media, GPS, phone apps, and even satellite internet while on the road.

Kristen and Trent can work on the road and often travel to forage. They follow mushroom seasons throughout the year: January in California, springtime burn morels in Oregon, summer in Colorado, and then back to the Oregon coast in the fall for matsutakes. In 2020 they released their first book, Wild Mushrooms: A Cookbook and Foraging Guide, Skyhorse Publishing. Follow their adventures at modernforager.com.
