Adriatic Adventures + The Adventure of Learning From One Another

Adriatic Adventures

A small, engaging Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages and beautiful beaches along its Adriatic coastline, Montenegro is full of history, culture and wonderful food.

I just returned from a week crisscrossing the country with RevelEleven co-founder Monica Smith, and her two nieces, Anna and Katie. This was our third trip together as a foursome and once again we had a great time.

Some of the highlights from our amazing trip:

  • Tasting oil olive from a farm that’s been in the same family for more than 500 years and has trees that are more than 600 years old.

  • One of my passions is walking ancient trails so hiking to the top of a mountain to see the ancient ruins of a fortress. A bonus: to see the spectacular Bay of Kotor.

  • A farm-to-table experience at an organic farm in Albania where we enjoyed homemade cheese, wine, wild mushrooms and other local cuisine.

  • Driving to Albania and singing along to the new Beyonce album—and then listening to our guide’s local music that has been played for centuries (truth-be-told, it reminded us of polka dancing music!)

Throughout the trip I was struck with the valuable perspective that can come from spending time with and learning from with those younger than yourself. Sharing and learning from Anna and Katie was a highlight of the trip. Our stories of life, love, family, moms/dads, sister/brothers, adventure and more was the golden thread that brought us closer together.

It’s a great reminder to be curious, ask questions and listen to all points of view. You might just learn a thing or two.
