Anticipating the Big Day: Seattle Dances

I just finished my last two dance rehearsals for Plymouth Housing’s Seattle Dances. I have written about how much I love to dance but I’ve never done anything like this before. And, honestly, being on stage isn’t the most comfortable place for me to be. In fact, it feels downright uncomfortable sometimes.

Which is why I’m challenging myself to show up, dance like no one is watching and raise money for a great cause.

In fact, dancing for the cause is the primary reason for saying YES. Plymouth Housing offers housing for the chronically homeless. They provide permanent housing solutions and badly needed services. I recently had the opportunity to talk with Kristina Giscombe, Director of Supportive Housing Services, at Plymouth about the organization, homelessness and how we can all help, in one simple way.

Plymouth offers housing to about 1,100 people every year. The homeless crisis in Seattle is significant. And the housing and services are needed now more than ever.

Seattle Dances is just about a week away, on March 12th. Where ten dancers, me among them, will strut our stuff with our professional dance instructors hoping to land the top title and get the most votes.

And back to dancing. I am dancing to a very fast song which is super fun and challenging. I chose 11-time Grammy nominee Jon Batiste’s song I Need You. Why? Because it is upbeat, energetic and just plain happy which is exactly what we need right now. While the news is horrible right now with the Ukrainian crisis, I’m hoping this event will bring a little lightness during this unnerving time.

A humble ask: VOTE FOR JOANIE + ANDY. And bonus, between Friday, March 4 and Friday, March 11, all votes will be doubled up to $20,000 total.
