Holiday Magic, Without the Stress

All of a sudden, somehow, we’re just a week away from Thanksgiving!

The holidays are my favorite time of the year, but they can be both full of joy and full of stress. This year, I’ve been thinking about how I can do things differently to create a holiday season that’s both happy and healthy:

Remember that in the season of “ho, ho, ho” it’s okay to say “no, no, no." It’s easy to overbook during the holidays, so give yourself permission to say “no” and do less. Say “yes” to the people and activities that lift your soul and spirit—and let go of the rest.

Give from the heart. The most meaningful gifts don’t have to be showy or expensive. Consider giving experiences rather than things. Include a note with your gift telling the recipient how you chose it and why you are glad they are in your life.

Be mindful with food and drink. For many of us, the holidays can mean big meals, lots of alcohol and a month of excess. But you don’t have to be that way. Be intentional with your choices and do what feels right, not what others expect or what you’ve done in the past. You’re in control!

Give yourself the best gift of all: time. Don’t forget the most important person on your list—you! Find a way to carve out some “you time” during this busy season—take a bubble bath, go for a walk, read a book—whatever it takes to bring yourself some holiday joy.

Happy Thanksgiving!
