Mental Health Day: Prioritizing Self Care
I don’t know about you, but it’s been hard for me to be positive and hopeful lately. With wars raging, politics blaring and being pulled in so many different directions, it’s easy to feel negative and discouraged.
I remember a book that I loved many years ago called All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Seattle author Robert Fulghum. When the book came out, I was interviewed by the Seattle Times about why its message resonated so much with people. My answer: because life is easy but we make it so difficult.
All these years later, that still seems true, but at the same time anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges are very real—and very powerful.
Taking care of our hearts and minds has never been more important. World Mental Health Day is today (October 10th) and is an important reminder to prioritize our mental well-being. Give yourself permission and time to be with loved ones, explore nature, create peaceful moments, walk the doggo or do anything else that brings you joy.
As we acknowledge World Mental Health Day, let it serve as a gentle reminder that nurturing our mental health is not a one-day event, but a lifelong practice. The world may feel overwhelming at times, but small acts of self-care and connection can help us find balance and peace amidst the chaos. Whether it’s revisiting childhood wisdom, seeking support, or simply slowing down, remember that you’re not alone in this journey. Together, we can cultivate a sense of hope and resilience, one moment of care at a time.
All my best,
