Joanie on Embracing Her Passion for Dance

What’s your passion?

For me, it's dancing. People have always told me I look my happiest when I dance. So, the question I ask myself is, why has it taken me this long to embrace my love of dancing and make time for it?

Well, life happens. I think there’s always been a part of me that thought it was frivolous to spend time dancing. After all, my time was stretched thin as I was running a business, had a team, my friends and family – all taking priority over one of my true loves – to dance.

Then an opportunity presented itself and I answered with an enthusiastic YES. I’m embarking on a challenge by participating in Seattle Dances, a fundraiser for Plymouth Housing. It’s the Seattle-style version of Dancing with the Stars. I’ve been paired with a professional dancer named Andy Howe, who owns Impact Ballroom. We have been practicing for about four weeks. I’m learning a lot about how to swing and do the Charleston. But more than that, I've realized that dancing is all about how you show up. Your willingness to learn, be a partner, your commitment. And then practice, practice, practice. And then do it again and again. There is a lot of psychology to the art of dance.

Join me in this Seattle Dances journey and help me raise important funds for Plymouth Housing. Plymouth provides housing to the chronically homeless and has a very important model in the fight against homelessness. You can VOTE FOR ME here: https://plymouthhousing.org/events/seattle-dances/
