Divya Krishnan is a Yoga teacher and a lover of mountains, nature and great books. Through yoga and meditation practices, Divya would like to bring healing, centering and the gift of joy and vitality to others. Her wish is for everyone to stand strong and in their own power through all these grounding practices. Divya has been a guest teacher at Sunday Morning Yoga and is teaching again on Sunday, September 5.

What have you learned over the past year+ of the pandemic? What have you learned about yourself?

I am stronger and calmer than I think I am. We all need to find those practices or places that can heal us in trying times. Those places for me are the mountains and being in nature. Practices are breath work, meditation and yoga. I have also realized that the other important thing is to check in on people. Everyone does not necessarily have the resources to cope during these challenging times so some people just need a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on. I have to learn to cope with not being able to see my parents and extended family in India which is still a struggle but am taking it one day at a time. I am happy with the fact that my parents finally figured out What’s App video!

What are you grateful for?

I am grateful for my health, my family, friends, my retriever and communities that uplift like Revel Eleven, my Hula and yoga community. I am so grateful that I live in a city and state of extreme beauty where contemplation and immersion in nature is so easy. I am also grateful for all the online classes and online concerts that we have access to in the pandemic. I am also grateful for the amazing podcasts and also amazing meditations and spiritual classes on apps like Insight Timer where I have learned so much.

What is something that you do during the day that brings you joy?

I love doing one of these things in no particular order – Taking mini dance breaks, gossiping with my daughters or just bothering them, mini Yoga sessions or a walking around my neighborhood with my feisty golden retriever Casper. Making a cup of tea and reading my current book. Listening to amazing music.

If you had 15 minutes of unexpected free time, what would you do?

I would turn the music up high and dance for 15 minutes!

What would you do if you knew you wouldn’t fail?

That’s really an awesome question. I have a few ideas but need to start somewhere. I would become a life coach or a children’s book writer or even create a podcast – I have a few topics in mind need to zero in on one.

What is a daily ritual that you can’t live without? A mantra you are living with?

My Meditation practice and my self-care practices. One of my favorite Mantras that I lead everyday with is “How can I live in joy today and how can I share that same joy with others?”

What story do you tell yourself that you would like to change? And what would you change it to?

From time to time I lapse into - “I am not good enough to do this”. I would like to change that to “I can do almost anything I want to do”. This has been a game changer for me literally and has spurred me on to dive into difficult things holding on to the fear.

How are you juggling business, family and personal time from home?

My regular job as a listing coordinator in real estate supporting a lot of busy agents can get hectic at a moment’s notice and I am a bit of a workaholic so that has been a struggle at times to truly get off work because my laptop is in my bedroom. However, I am consciously working on walking away from my screen after 5:30 p.m. every single day to spend time with my family or simply cook dinner or potter around in my garden. Getting an activity or class time on the calendar right at 6 p.m. helps. Saturdays I have earmarked for hikes or just wandering in a place of natural beauty- we have so many so that’s easy. Teaching yoga and practicing as well with my favorite teachers is a true gift as is my Hula community.
