Our Sojourn to Sun Valley

You’ve probably heard the cliché of ski resort towns, ‘People may come for the snow, but they stay for the summers.’ Sun Valley, Idaho fits the bill. At 9,150 feet, Bald Mountain has a dominant presence in the valley year-round—even without all that snow! Joanie and I have been hiking and skiing in Sun Valley for years, so it’s a perfect spot to share with a small group of women hikers.

While immersing yourself in back-country wilderness and roughing it for a few days can be a great thing, that’s not our plan. There’s a reason it’s home to celebrities, writers and politicians, and that’s because it has a wonderful mix of wilderness and outdoor sports, while also having fabulous food, culture, and pampering.

As we prepared the retreat itinerary, we took the time to think about our typical sojourn to Sun Valley. It’s located in the upper Wood River Valley, about 20 minutes from the Hailey airport. During the drive from the airport, I find my chest and heart expands while my blood pressure recedes with big sky views, big mountains and beautiful scenery. It’s a two-activity-a-day type of place. Our typical day includes: waking up, having coffee and poached eggs at Java (a local hotspot), heading out for a long hike, healthy lunch, power nap, yoga or biking in the afternoon, happy hour (by a pond, river or wine bar), followed by great dinner and maybe an outdoor concert or performance. And we get to do it all over again the next day. Heaven!

Sharing our favorite Sun Valley experiences with other revelers will be pure joy. July 24 – 28. Mark it on your calendar. We hope you can make it. Your mind and body will thank you. I have a feeling this very special trip will become an annual RevelEleven sojourn.

Cheers!

Monica
