What Are YOU Waiting For?

There’s a question I’ve been thinking about lately: What are you waiting for?

Not someday. Not when work settles down. Not when I have more money, more time, more energy, or finally feel “ready.” Because, truly, why do we wait for the “right” circumstances when we know that most of the time there is never a perfect time? Somewhere along the way, we become very good at putting our own lives on hold. We tell ourselves there will be time later for that one adventure you’ve always dreamed of, the creative project you're envisioning, the new business that you’ve been thinking about, a new city, or you name it.

But what if later isn't the point?

Debbie and Michael Campbell decided in their 60s that they didn't want to wait for a traditional retirement to begin living differently. They sold their home, gave away most of what they owned and set off to see the world. Twelve years later, they've traveled through 95 countries, stayed in more than 300 Airbnbs and completely changed their ideas about what was possible. Through their travels, they became the Senior Nomads. They’ve been written up in the New York Times, wrote a book, and a very popular blog.

Their story isn't really about travel. It's about what can happen when you stop waiting for permission.

And maybe that's the invitation for all of us. You don't have to sell your house and travel the world. Your leap might be much smaller. It might be saying yes to something you've wanted for years. Taking yourself somewhere you've never been. Starting something new. Leaving something behind. Or simply admitting, out loud, that you want more. I will be talking with Debbie Campbell about all of this and her new book called 12 Lessons from 12 Years of Travel.

You don't need to know exactly where the road leads.

Sometimes you just need to be willing to take the first step. So I'll ask you again: What are YOU waiting for?
